FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It's TRUE Love at Queens College
O'Fallon, MO- October 15, 2001
The students at Queens College in North Carolina are crazy
about the TRUE Fitness equipment recently installed in their
new gym.
"Everyone who comes in is excited about the new equipment," said
Jared Helton a student who was taking advantage of the new
facilities recently. "I've been working out for years, but
I've never had the opportunity to use some of the different
equipment we have now. It's helped me diversify my workout
technique."
The college didn't have a fitness center before TRUE came
into their lives. Many students were using the athletic center
and then going off campus to meet work out needs the athletic
department didn't offer. They are extremely happy with their
new facility. And that's the best part; the way the students - the
ones for whom the center was designed - feel about the new
facility. They are enthusiastically using the equipment and
apparently loving every minute of it.
"We've never had anything like it before. The students and
faculty are amazed," said Christie Clark who is a student and
a facility manager at the gym. "The equipment is easy for beginners
to learn which makes the fitness trainer's jobs easier. All
the equipment is user friendly. The students are definitely
enjoying their workouts more. The equipment doesn't break down
and they don't have to wait in long lines."
When the college decided to build a new state
of the art fitness center for students and faculty, they called
on Dave Marsick of Fitness Concepts who is a TRUE Fitness dealer.
TRUE dealers receive intensive exercise education from a team
of commercial dealer factory-direct representatives. The training
teaches dealers how to educate their customers on how to achieve
desired weight loss and cardiovascular conditioning goals through
proper heart rate training.
With his training and complete confidence in his product Marsick
was well equipped to guide the college every step of the way,
from the planning stage to the completed center. He considered
every aspect of user needs including age range, needs of the
athletic department, the need for equipment that was fast and
easy to learn and which and how many pieces were appropriate
for the facility.
His vision became an 8,000 square foot facility including
eight treadmills, five recumbent bikes and eight elliptical
trainers. The ringing endorsement is the fact that the athletic
department has moved many their activities from the athletic
department to the new center.
"We view the facility as our crown jewel or marquee facility
in Charlotte. It's the largest installation on the East Coast," Marsick
said." It stands to boost the health and fitness of the entire
campus."
The center is open to students, grad students, adult students
and faculty, but the campus residential population is the primary
user. Helton said he, as well as other students work out more
often for several reasons. Firstly, the new equipment replaced
old machinery; some that didn't work properly and some got
no use because it was broken. The room itself is inviting to
students because it is so much bigger than the old gym.
"The old gym was so small that it was crowded
if seven or eight people showed up," he said. The new fitness
center has six TVs so people who are using the treadmills or
other equipment can catch up on the news or watch favorite
programs. It is open more hours now, which makes it convenient
for more people. The fitness staff is well trained and always
there to help the users achieve their goals whether they are
a good cardio workout, muscle development or weight loss.
"There's just no comparison. Many of us never had the opportunity
to use equipment like this before," Helton said.
TRUE Fitness Technology, Inc. designs and builds top of the
line, hand crafted, synergistic, ergonomic friendly equipment.
It manufactures consumer and commercial treadmills, upright
and recumbent exercise bikes and elliptical trainers.
Its treadmills are reputed by popular media to be the fitness
industry's smoothest and quietest-running, as well as being
consistent "Best Value" and "Best Buy" recommended products.
TRUE's unique S.O.F. T. System is the most advanced shock-absorbing
system available. It cushions the initial impact and then transitions
to a firm, secure surface for push-off, which provides lateral
stability throughout and eliminates deck shift from side to
side.
The benefits are less wear on the treadmill and less stress
on the ankles, knees, hips and back, making it ideal for everyday
workouts as well as rehabilitation.
TRUE acquired the first-ever U.S. patent for treadmill
heart rate control technology and was the first company to
use incline control motors on home treadmills. Heart rate training
is the most efficient way to maximize fat burning for weight
loss while maintaining a low level of perceived exertion. The
treadmill automatically adjusts speed and/or grade to bring
you to and keep you at your selected target heart rate.
Lauren Hogan, another student fitness assistant
was also happy about the new equipment and her workout regime.
"I've worked out for a long time. I had a membership back
home, but now I work out more often," she said.
Besides the ease of use of the equipment, Hogan likes the
diversity the new gym offers. "There is an area for weight
lifting, aerobics, cardio, whatever you want," she said.
Dean of student affairs Eric Baldwin is delighted with the
new facility. He says that in general, the nation is becoming
more fitness aware and that philosophy is reflected in his
college students.
"People are coming to the campus more fit and want to maintain
it while furthering their education," he said. "Everyone from
the students to the faculty are totally overwhelmed and amazed."
Queens College, being a forward thinking institution, sees
fitness and wellness as a cornerstone to the education its
students receive. The hope is that when a student leaves, he
or she is enriched intellectually, mentally, emotionally, as
well as physically.
The College traces its history back to 1857 when
it was founded as a Presbyterian-affiliated women's college.
Today it is a private, coed, Presbyterian-affiliated liberal
arts college in the heart of historic Charlotte North Carolina.
It serves approximately 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students
through its College of Arts and Sciences, Hayworth College
and McColl School of Business. Queens has a liberal arts philosophy
that imbues all its programs.
Frank Trulaske, founder of TRUE
Fitness is an avid sportsman, whose family had established
global recognition for producing high-quality commercial
refrigeration machinery, was disappointed by the poor quality
of a home treadmill his father purchased. He decided to combine
his manufacturing expertise with his fitness lifestyle by launching
his own treadmill company in 1981. The company now has over
250 employees, offers the world's largest treadmill family
(28 different models), has grown 600% since 1995, and remains
one of the few treadmill manufacturers to produce all its own
critical mechanical and structural components.
